In the dynamic worlds of sports fashion, there is no looking back. The growing synergy between
them signifies one of first steps towards the technological innovations of tomorrow. Fashion

a new understanding of the changing approach to the body, and the shifts in lifestyle resulting from
the arrival of the Internet and new communication technology. It is now clear in fashion,
as well as in sport, that designers are no longer simply working within the limits of human
potential, but moving beyond them, and adapting clothing and footwear to facilitate this process.

In recent years, firms such as Adidas have applied technological research to develop cushioning
systems of their own. Most of sports adidas shoes are designed with cushioning systems that contain
shock absorbent moulds and reinforced membranes. Among the materials they have developed are
`adiPRENE-', placed in the heel to protect it from impact and stabilize its position within
the adidas originals shoes ; `adiPRENE+' which gives flexibility and efficient mobility in the forefoot of the foot;
the `Torsion' system,

which encases the foot to create stability; a `Traxion' layer to maximize the
shoe's grip on impact; the `adiDRY' waterproof membrane to keep moisture out; `adiTUFF' to strengthen
and reinforce the shoe's upper for added wearability; and the `adiWEAR' layer to provide greater
abrasion resistance and durability to the sole. The adidas shoes originals

As the most primary extension
of our body into the landscape, footwear is an expression of speed, power, fitness and protection.
Sports shoe designers express these characteristics in their task to encase
and protect the foot, creating an aesthetic for the outer surface charged with speed, originality and
physical power. This is where sport shoes meet fashion; they are no longer dismissed as purely functional,
but now play an essential role in the fashion sports wardrobe.
The question asked by designers and trend experts alike is whether fashion's adherence to sportswear
ethics and technological innovations will be its downfall. The acceptance of new functionality may not
indicate fashion's ruin, but indicates that the traditional woman of fashion is disappearing. Her
disappearance has been masterminded by changes in the lifestyles of urban women around the globe,
and their increasing use of sports clothing fashion to provide for their practical concerns.
Sportswear provides
many sensible solutions, and now offers a range of shapely clothing and cutting edge designs that
suit and adapt to a wider range of body shapes than most fashion designs do. With them comes the
comfort, performance and durability necessary for the fast paced, high tech world we now live in.
While trends and styles will inevitably
change, sportswear seems to have laid the strongest
foundations for fashion's future in the short term, at least until intelligent designs are ready
to launch the unwired world of the future. Compared to the innovations that sports designers developed
in such a short time, techno fashions are not as radical as they seem. If anything, it is a surprise
fashion took so long to embrace the sense of utility, functionality, performance and transformability
inherent in sportswear. Ultimately, the exchanges between fashion and sport will simplify our wardrobes,
but the route to simplicity may be long and complex.
